Sustainability

At Jakarta Running Festival 2025, sustainability is embedded in every detail of the event. From what runners wear, to how we manage waste, power our stages, and move people across the city, every initiative is designed to minimize our footprint and maximize positive impact.

Procurement

All runner jerseys are made from recycled materials.

Actions:

  • At least 70% recycled polyester is used in the tees.
  • Moisture-wicking fabric keeps runners dry and comfortable.
  • Reflective details ensure visibility and safety.
  • Storytelling touchpoints highlight how reusing existing materials helps reduce waste and reliance on finite resources.

Impact:

Every runner wears sustainability, cutting down textile waste and lowering the event’s footprint while still delivering high-performance gear.

Waste Management

Achieve zero waste to landfill

Actions:

  • Install clearly labeled waste bins for organic, inorganic, and recyclable materials.
  • Measure waste generated across all phases: pre-event, load-in, main event, and load-out.
  • Track, analyze, and report waste diversion outcomes.

Impact:

  • A cleaner and more responsible event environment.
  • Lower emissions through effective waste management.

Energy

Introduce hydrogen power to replace fossil fuel generators.

Actions:

  • Deploy hydrogen fuel cell generators at key operational areas such as the main stage and race village.
  • Pilot hydrogen power as part of event operations.
  • Gradually phase out diesel generators.

Impact:

  • Significant emission reductions compared to diesel use.
  • Establish the event as a pioneer in adopting green hydrogen for mass-participation sports in Indonesia.

Accomodation

Sustainable and nearby accommodation for the committee

Actions:

  • Prioritize hotels within close proximity to the venue, reducing the need for long commutes.
  • Limit transport-related movements to cut down on event emissions.
  • Ensure that accommodation planning supports both operational efficiency and sustainability goals.

Impact:

  • Greater efficiency for the organizing team with less time spent on travel.
  • A measurable reduction in CO₂ footprint through minimized transportation.

Carbon Neutrality

Deliver a carbon neutral event.

Actions:

  • Calculate and offset 100% of event-related emissions across all phases, from planning to execution.
  • Partner with certified providers to ensure transparent and verifiable offset processes.
  • Channel offset funds into high-impact projects, including:

Environment: reforestation programs and renewable energy initiatives.

Biodiversity: habitat protection and restoration of natural ecosystems.

Social: creation of green jobs and community-based sustainability benefits.

Impact:

  • Achieve verified carbon neutral status for the event.
  • Contribute to ecosystem restoration and biodiversity protection.
  • Generate positive social and economic outcomes for local communities.
